Book Blogger Hop + Feature & Follow Friday #44

Do you use bookmarks? If so, do you match them to the book you're reading or do you use random scraps of paper?

(Suggested by Bunnita @ Worth Reading)

I'd love to answer that I have a beautiful bookmark which I use regularly when reading my books, but no...I'm a random scrap of paper gal, whatever is nearby at the time, I don't know why considering I do have bookmarks around.

However, after doing this topic, I'm going to find a beautiful personalised handmade bookmark from Etsy and I'll start using it. I won't be "matching" it to each of the books I read as that would get far too expensive, but I will make more of an effort in using a proper bookmark.

Do you use a bookmark? If you do, which is it, where did you get it from and do you find it's good to use?

Next week @ Book Blogger Hop

Do you collect things that are book related? Like bookmarks, nameplates, 1st editions.

What is your favourite movie?

(Suggested by A Kernel of Nonsense

I know I'm cheating but I'm choosing the Harry Potter Series because it's really the only movie adaptation that I think is "good enough", it'll never be as good as the books, but the movie was done really well.

If you are in a book club, where do you meet? At a restaurant, someone's home, the library? If you aren't in a book club, why not?

(Suggested by Elizabeth from Silver's Reviews)

I would love to attend a local book club and I've attended the local library one, once or twice but I just wasn't thrilled with the books that they were reading, so I didn't bother going back a third time. I have been searching for a more appropriate book club but haven't found one as yet, I do participate in online ones though.

That's why I love the Book Blogging Community so much, because I have no other means to let out my bookish addiction. If there are any YA online book clubs or read-alongs please leave me a link at the comments section.

You can only eat one cuisine type for the rest of your life. Which would you choose?

I was really tossing up between All-American food or Asian food, I'm going to go with the latter for the following reasons:-
  • I'm of Asian descent and couldn't live without rice
  • Lots of variety
  • Asians seem to stay generally healthy (good figure, great skin) so I'm going to wager that some of it would be to do with their diet and not just genetics
For the rest of your life is quite long so this question makes me nervous as I do love variety. Asian desserts aren't that great either from my experience, I can't really think of that many that is as awesome as a brownie fudge sundae! What cuisine would you choose and why?

Do you lend your books out to family & friends?

(Suggested by Elizabeth from Silver's Reviews)

I very, very, rarely lend books. If I lend a book it's a book that I can loose e.g. one I bought from the seconds store, not part of a series or not one of my collectibles or signed copies. I don't lend because it'll end up causing friction between me and the person I lent it to if they bring it back and it's not the same as when I lent it out or if it was new it didn't come back as pristine as I would have liked. By not lending it out, it eliminates the drama.

Q. What's the first book you remember reading?

I really wish that I could find the Nursery Rhyme book my Mum bought for me when I was a baby so I can take a photo of it. It's a hardback, A4 and it was quite thick, and my copy had scribbles from baby me which is why it's quite sentimental to me. It's all boxed up and sealed so it doesn't get ready, I fully intend on using it for my son.

However, I don't really "remember" reading that per-se but I remember my Mum reading it to me.

These are the first books I remember reading. These were the actual covers.

Q. How many posts do you publish per week? And how many of them are reviews?

(Suggested Elizabeth from Silver's Reviews

I currently don't have a proper schedule as yet, but I'm in the process of doing so, basing it on Amanda's past Bloggiesta Mini Challenge here. If like me, you don't have a scheduling system as yet it is really worth checking that mini-challenge out. The system is easy, simple but will add structure to anyone's scheduling techniques.

Ideally I'd like to have a post per day, with 2-3 reviews per week, whether it be through tours, ARC's or just my own personal reads.

I'd love to hear how many posts everyone publishes per week, and I'd also like to hear your scheduling techniques and how are you finding it?

Q. If you were to get a tattoo, what would it say or what would the graphic be? Or if you have a tattoo, share a picture and its meaning.

(Suggested by Second Run Reviews)

This is my actual back tattoo as of today's date. It's still a work in progress, my Hubby is a Tattooist. I only had one tattoo prior to this one which is that dragon right at the bottom, I got that done when I was 21 years old, and then Hubby started this last year...whilst the design is absolutely beautiful if I could rewind time back I certainly wouldn't have done something so big, as I'm now a Mother!

I would like to get a tattoo representing my son, I'm unsure what I'm going to get, I'm thinking just his name, or his real footprint/handprint with his date of birth or a portrait, but I have to think about where to put it, as I only get tattooed in places where I can hide it if I want to, and show it when it's appropriate.

I would have loved to get a literary tattoo, don't know why I never got one, it would have been more meaningful than my original dragon, but now it's a tad late as I don't want too much tattoos. Before I allowed Hubby to tattoo me I wasn't going to get anymore because I had already started regretting my original dragon...the silly things you do for love.

I'm so excited to see everyone else's tattoo most especially those bookish or children related.

What reason would you have to stop reading a book? (E.g. too long, wrong genre, not what you expected etc.)

(Suggested by Elizabeth from Silver's Reviews)

Previously I would not stop reading a book for anything, even though I can't get into it I still won't stop, but as of late I have learned, and since blogging really, that there are way too many fantastic books around to get caught up on one that becomes a chore to read, so I'd have to say that my main two reasons for stopping the reading of a book would be:-

1. Can't get into it, so probably accurate in saying it's not what I expected.
2. I need to stop temporarily to review another book that's due sooner i.e. a review is due for blog tour or what not.

These are the only two reasons I can think of that would stop me from reading.

If you see a book you like but you realise it has 400-500+ pages, will you still read it?

It really depends on how much I like it. If I really wanted to read it, then yes it wouldn't matter the number of pages. However, I need to be totally "in the mood" for that book. I may even start reading it, but due to its length also pause every now and then to read another shorter book, then come back to it.

Were you a born bookworm or somebody got you into the habit of reading?

Born a bookworm! My Mother read to me when I was a child. I still own my very first book, a hardcover A4 book of nursery rhymes, scribble and all done by yours truly. Then as a child my nose was always stuck in a book, I didn't go anywhere without one, this pretty much continued throughout my childhood till I got to high school. From high school through to my early 20s I still read but my reading reduced quite substantially for me anyway.

If you don't like a book that you said you would review, do you graciously turn it down and explain why or do you struggle through it and hopefully come up with a half decent review?

Firstly if I've already said yes to reviewing the book then the least I can do is give it a try. If I'm still not getting into the book after awhile despite having tried I'd then email the Author/Publisher and explain to them why I'm just not getting the hang of said book. If the story (plot, characters, writing etc) was still good but I just personally didn't like it, I'd also offer the Author/Publisher a Spotlight with Excerpt post, if however the book was just plain terrible, then I'd offer up the reason as to why I didn't like it and leave it at that.

How do you turn down a review request?

Firstly I only reply to those that seem to have made some effort towards their letter, not just a bulk mailed letter to all bloggers. So getting past this, I would then state that I'm very appreciative and honoured to be asked to review their work, which I know is literally their babies, but unfortunately at this time and I then give my reason. I reject reviews mainly for the following reasons:-

  • Synopsis is not exciting me and I'm not wanting to read the book from book description
  • Not within the genres I normally read and enjoy
  • I'm too busy

How do you organise your books to be read?

This is a fantastic topic and I can't wait to read everyone's replies. I'm looking for an organising app of some sort to help me catalogue all my books, as I've bought several duplicates, so I'd love a system that will let me know what books I already own.

So far my only organisation tool is Goodreads and I organise books to be read by looking at my calendar, seeing what books I've got up for review, reading those first, along with other special events like Read-along and Bookclub reads and then after all that then my personal TBR pile.

Looking forward to everyone's response!

Favourite Classic Novel

I haven't read many classics, but from the ones I've read I'd have to say my favourite is Dracula by Bram Stroker. I'm not sure if Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is considered a classic but that's also a favourite along with Little Women by Loisa May Alcott.

Do you like/dislike Rafflecopter and why?

I like Rafflecopter when I'm entering a giveaway, it's easy and most of the entries you can do within the Rafflecopter form, however, being the host of the giveaway there are some minor kinks that would be great if Rafflecopter can iron out. For example the duplicate entries option doesn't always work which is annoying because then I have to redo the whole form.
