Fateful by Claudia Gray Review

Title - Fateful
Author - Claudia Gray
Publisher - Harper Collins
Date Published - September 2011
Source - Harper Collins

Goodreads Synopsis
The RMS Titanic might be the most luxurious ship in the world, but all passenger Tess Davies wants to do is escape her dreary existence as a maid. Trapped in a web of painful memories and twisted family secrets, Tess vows to make a run for it as soon as the ship reaches New York. A new world awaits...and a new life!

Her single-minded obsession shatters when she meets Alec. Handsome and mysterious he captivates her immediately - but Alec has secrets of his own. As she uncovers the darkness lurking beneath his sophisticated surface, Tess discovers a horrifying truth. Werewolves, once only the stuff of nightmares, are real - and they are stalking Alec. Tess' love for Alec puts her in mortal peril, but an even greater danger lies in front of her before their journey on the Titanic is over...

Review
Fateful is another terrific book from the author of the Evernight series, Claudia Gray. The book just grabbed your attention from the very beginning, and it just had you hooked right to the very last page. It's fast-paced, well-written and just a beautiful book as it combined the historical aspects of the Titanic, added with paranormal young adult romance and this book just had it all!

Tess is a ladies servant working for the Lisle family, the eve of her boarding the Titanic, on her way to running an errand she encounters a very strange scenario that had her questioning all that she knew about the world she lived in. She also meets the dashing, despite somewhat being reluctant hero, Alec Marlowe.

Tess boards with the family she serves on the Titanic the following day only to find that her torturer from the day before along with her hero are also aboard the ship. Determined to stay out of trouble, she focuses on doing her job well...after all she doesn't plan to be in service to the Lisles for much longer. Tess strives to leave the family upon docking at New York City to begin a new life for herself.

However, a bunch of strange things begin happening to Tess and she soon discovers a range of secrets, romance and danger within the ship. The story follows Tess as she slowly deciphers the secrets aboard the Titanic and by doing so she falls in love with Alec, the son of a steel entrepreneur. However, their love affair is obstructed by more issues rather than just the class difference between them.

This book is amazing and I devoured it every minute I got. Tess was an amazing protagonist, she was truthful, heroic and a sweet girl. Alec was the perfect gentleman and hero and I was very impressed with his attitude. There are many other secondary characters that made this story whole, including Myriam, Tess' cabin room mate, and Lady Irene, the Lady that Tess serves. I enjoyed Lady Irene as she stood up to her parents, were kind to the servants and saved Tess several times.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the historical and paranormal aspect, and the romance between Alec and Tess. Definitely a must read!

Lament by Maggie Stiefvater

Title:- Lament
Author:- Maggie Stiefvater
Twitter | Facebook
Publisher:- Scholastic
Date Published:- January 3rd 2011

Goodreads Synopsis:-
Sixteen-year-old Deirdre Monaghan is a painfully shy but prodigiously gifted musician. She's about to find out she's also a cloverhand—one who can see faeries. Deirdre finds herself infatuated with a mysterious boy who enters her ordinary suburban life, seemingly out of thin air. Trouble is, the enigmatic and gorgeous Luke turns out to be a gallowglass—a soulless faerie assassin. An equally hunky—and equally dangerous—dark faerie soldier named Aodhan is also stalking Deirdre. Sworn enemies, Luke and Aodhan each have a deadly assignment from the Faerie Queen. Namely, kill Deirdre before her music captures the attention of the Fae and threatens the Queen's sovereignty. Caught in the crossfire with Deirdre is James, her wisecracking but loyal best friend. Deirdre had been wishing her life weren't so dull, but getting trapped in the middle of a centuries-old faerie war isn't exactly what she had in mind...

Review:-
Lament is a story of forbidden love. Dee is a very shy but musically talented teen, at the preparation of one of her performances she meets a strange and secretive young man, Luke Dillon. They perform a duet together and that's when Luke entered Dee's typical suburban life...that's when things changed and when all things as Dee knew it ended.

Forgotten by Cat Patrick

Title:- Forgotten
Author:- Cat Patrick
Date Published:- June 1, 2011

Goodreads Synopsis:-
I remember forwards. I remember forwards, and forget backwards. My memories, bad, boring, or good haven't happened yet. So I will remember standing in the fresh-cut grass with the black-clad figures surrounded by stone until I do it for real. I will remember the funeral until it happens - until someone dies. And after that, it will be forgotten. Here's the thing about me: I can see my future, but my past is blank. I see the future in flashes, like memories. I remember what I'll wear tomorrow, and a car crash that won't happen till this afternoon. But yesterday has evaporated from my mind - just like the boy I love. I can't see him in my future. I can't remember him from my past. But today, I love him. And I never want to forget how much.

Review:-
London Lane's memory resets every 4.33am. To be able to live 'normally' she writes herself a note daily before bed and reads it in the morning before she starts her day. Everything is written on her notes including the mundane and the boring, but I suppose if you can't recall the day before, such notes would be vital.

Friday Weekly Features

To-be-read's:- How big is your pile? Which books keep getting pushed down the stack, but you keep meaning to read it?

A room full...no joke.

I've currently got a lot of books from the library, many are part of a series' so I keep waiting for consecutive books before reading the first book to the series, so a lot keep getting put back at the bottom of the pile as I'm still awaiting for the next book/s.

However, just a few that have been put at the end of the pile because of library books are Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer and Uncommon Criminals by Ally Carter. I've read book 1 for both of these series but because they were bought I'm not in a major rush to get through them like I am with my library books.

If you could pick one character from a book, movie or television show to swap places with, who would it be?

From Television Shows:-
Adrianne Maloof from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
She's filthy rich but still very down-to-earth.

The Kardashians
I'd love the opportunities that they have. Due to their Father's legacy they have so many open business opportunities that many of us normal folks don't have LOL.

Evie from Paranormalcy by Kiersten White - I LOVE her job!

Bella from Twilight by Stephanie Meyer - Who doesn't want a rich, handsome, forever young man? Unlike others I actually find the whole Edward Cullen character swoon worthy and I'd love my Husband to be more like Edward Cullen minus the sucking of blood.

Going with the premise that the movie won't wreck the book, I'd like to see a lot of great books turned into a movie. I'll list a few of my faves:-

Saving June by Hannah Harrington

Title:- Saving June
Author:- Hannah Harrington
Publisher:- Harlequin Teen
First Published:- May 1, 2011
Source:- Netgalley
Genre:- Contemporary Young Adult Fiction

‘If she’d waited less than two weeks, she’d be June who died in June. But I guess my sister didn’t consider that.’

Harper Scott’s older sister has always been the perfect one so when June takes her own life a week before her high school graduation, sixteen-year-old Harper is devastated. Everyone’s sorry, but no one can explain why.

When her divorcing parents decide to split her sister’s ashes into his-and-her urns, Harper takes matters into her own hands. She’ll steal the ashes and drive cross-country with her best friend, Laney, to the one place June always dreamed of going California.

Enter Jake Tolan. He’s a boy with a bad attitude, a classic-rock obsession and nothing in common with Harper’s sister. But Jake had a connection with June, and when he insists on joining them, Harper’s just desperate enough to let him. With his alternately charming and infuriating demeanour and his belief that music can see you through anything, he might be exactly what she needs.

Except June wasn’t the only one hiding something. Jake’s keeping a secret that has the power to turn Harper’s life upside down again.
