The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 14th and runs through Sunday, May 20th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 22 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. Sign-up page - From the Bout of Books team.

Welcome to another round of Bout-of-Books readathon, 22 to be exact! I've participated in this readathon a few times and enjoy it a lot. I find Dewey's slightly restrictive as it's only one day, and unfortunately this year I couldn't participate as I came down with a flu. So I was so excited when I found out that Bout of Books is happening! Come and join me! If you are going to participate please comment below and leave me a link to your sign-up page so I can visit. I will update this post soon with my TBR for the readathon, can't wait to see you all there!

Goals

  1. Read 200 pages daily
  2. Participate in at least 2 challenges
  3. Participate in at least 1 Twitter chat
  4. Comment & Visit at least 50 other participants

Daily Update

Monday May 14th

Books & Pages Read
The Disappearance of Sloane Sullivan by Gia Cribbs = 350pgs
Total Pages Read = 350pgs
Total Books Finished = 1

Daily Update

I don't really get much reading time during the time as I've got a 3 year old and activities to do during the day. He was at school today, so I really should've sat home and read all day, but it's my ONLY day off, so had lunch and got to pick my Mother's Day presents (PJ sets & Dressing gown). I did do a solid 5 hours reading after my toddler went to bed, this is where I read the majority of the 350 pages.

Day 1 Challenge

Introduce yourself in #sixwords
Mum. Love of books, planners & handbags

Tuesday May 15th

Books & Pages Read
Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo = 40pgs
Caraval by Stephanie Garber = 147pgs
The Lies They Tell by Gillian French = 30pgs

Pages Read Today = 217
Total Pages Read = 567
Total Books Finished = 1

Daily Update

Today I had a really hard time getting into any book, hence why I read a little bit of Wonder Woman and a little bit of The Lies They Tell before Caraval gripped me at night.

During the day, nothing was holding my attention long enough to really go for a reading sprint of any sort. #Boutofbooks had a Twitter chat today, I was patiently waiting for it, then I picked up Wonder Woman, and for some reason just missed it! I remembered 15 mins before the end, I did still answer the questions, but I'll definitely going out of my way to participate in the next one...again.

Daily Challenge

Share a book that was published the year you were born

I went to Goodreads Listopia, and didn't really know any of the books there but this one that I chose. There were a few Stephen King books, but they weren't stories I knew. I do love Roald Dahl so glad I found one of his books.

Wednesday May 16th

Books & Pages Read
Caraval by Stephanie Garber 83 pages
Tyranny of Petticoats edited by Jessica Spotswood 20 pages
Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff 170 pgs

Pages Read Today = 273pgs
Total Pages Read = 840pgs
Total Books Finished = 1

Daily Update

I had playgroup with my son today from 10.30am-2pm so didn't get much reading done. I did get a few hours after we came home and had dinner etc but I didn't read as long I normally do as I was exhausted and my eyes just wasn't cooperating. I did listen to the Gemina audiobook and did a few hours of reading along with the audiobook. This tale is so gripping I tried to persevere but too tired.

Thursday May 17th

Books & Pages Read
Gemina by A Kaufman & J Kristoff 138pgs
Caraval by Stephanie Garber 95pgs
Pages Read Today = 233pgs

Total Pages Read = 1073

Daily update

I read Caraval when I had time, listened to Gemina in the car to and from my appointment and then readalong and finished it...Illuminae Files series is truly epic.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber = 77pgs
Glitter by Aprilynne Pike = 150pgs

Pages Read Today = 227
Total Pages Read = 1300
Total Books Finished = 3

Daily Update

I think mid-week I finally got the groove into the readathon. I've been happily meeting my 200/day goal! I also enjoyed this Space Scavenger Hunt, something different.

I did struggle with Novellas & Short stories, Nature and the Dog one. I originally put Marley & Me for the dog one, and changed it to this non-fiction that I really enjoyed. It's funny despite being a manual on how to look after a dog. I just loved how they wrote it, as if it was literally an instructional manual. They also have one for babies.

Daily Challenges

Space Scavenger Hunt
Mercury - Short stories/novellas

Venus - Female protagonist
Source: Wikipedia

Earth - About nature/nature word in the title

Mars - Red cover

Pages Read Today = 217
Total Pages Read = 1517

Daily Update

I got to more than half of this book and didn't really want to finish. It is gripping and entertaining there was just things I didn't like about it. Keep posted on my review.

Sunday May 20th

Bout of Books Read-a-thon #16

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 9th and runs through Sunday, May 15th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 16 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team

So I'm a bit late to the party but better late than never they say. I love read-a-thons as it pushes me a bit further to read a little bit more and I love the interactions with fellow book lovers in such events. I do live in a different time zone so sometimes the chats are hard to organise but I do try. I'll stop rambling, but this is just to say I'M IN!!! Will update my post with progresses etc tomorrow.

Goals

Read 100 pages daily
Participate in at least 2 Challenges
Participate in at least 1 Twitter chat
Visit and comment in at least 20 blogs

Wrap-up Update

I was able to complete all my goals, I even outdone myself by averaging to 178 pages per day which is alot better than my 100 pages per day original goal, I may up it to 200 pages per day next time.

I did visit and comment on 50+ updates but I wish I had done it over more days rather than just the 2 days I did it. One of those days I did the 50 and then another day I did about 10-20 more but I love socialising and encouraging participants through readathons, it's fun to meet new people, especially those that love the same type of books.

Hope to see everyone in the next one and thanks Amanda and Kelly for all the great effort and time you both take to organise.

Thursday 12th May

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard = 120 pages

Total Books Finished = 1
Total Pages Read = 794 pages

Today was a terrible read-a-thon day for me as I had Step-Mum duties; had to pick up my Step-Son who lives 1.5 hours (there and back) from home, followed by lunch, had to take Father in Law to Doctors, then everyone to the movies and then the Dentist for Step-Son.

In between all that I had to make an hour trip (there and back) to pickup a girlfriend from her post-op and drop her off at another girlfriend's home where she'll be recovering for the week. THEN, it was dinnertime and had to drop Step-Son home, take dinner to my two girlfriends (the nurse and the patient).

By the time I got home it was 9pm, I left the house around 9am so I had been out for nearly a whole 12 hours. I really should've listened to my audiobook as I certainly would have gotten some hours in there from all the driving LOL. By the time I got home I had a raging migraine, so I napped for an hour, then got up and FINALLY got to read!

Friday 13th May

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard = 251 pages

Total Books Finished = 2
Total Pages Read = 1, 045pages

Saturday 14th May

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray =18 pages
Passenger by Alexandra Bracken = 82 pages

Total Books Finished = 2
Total Pages Read = 1, 145 pages

Actually made it to a Twitter chat, I love the social aspect of readathons! I also visited 50 blogs today, which is always a goal for my #boutofbooks readathon to visit blogs and comment.

I would love to get another 355 pages in before the end but I highly doubt it as I'm very busy tomorrow.

Sunday 15th May

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken = 80 pages
Their fractured light by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff = 20 pages

Total books finished this week = 2
Total pages read = 1,245 pages

Was extremely busy today with one of my Step-kids birthday so I had 5 children which included 3 of my step children, their step brother and one friend. So I was very busy all day with All you can eat lunch and roller skating. Was extremely surprised I even got to read as much as I did by the time I got home I was exhausted.

ARC August 2015

Read, Sleep, Repeat has been hosting ARC August for 3 years now and it's a really great time for me to catch up with my Netgalley ARCs along with other few ones here and there, but mostly my main goal is to catch up on my Netgalley ARCs, I know I probably won't ever have 100% as there are DNFs but I'd like to get at least the 80-90%, does anyone have 100% for their Netgalley? Click on the button above or the link to sign up, and hope to see you there!

Rules:-
The rules are very simple

  • It may be a physical ARC or and eARC but it MUST be an ARC
  • Yes it can be an ARC that has released as long as it’s an ARC I’m not going to nit pick much
  • HAVE FUN WITH THIS! Feeling like you are being “forced” to read is the best way turn a fun event into a yucky obligation
  • Update post! I personally will do a post for each Saturday in August but that’s just me. You can update once a week, every other week or once for the whole darn event. This update can be in the form of a blog or tumblr post, vlog, link to your “ARC August 2015″ shelf or even an instagram pic! I want to make this as easy and low pressure as possible for you
I'll update this once every two weeks to write the books I've read and to link my reviews.

Crazy for Summer Readathon

Crazy for Summer Read-a-thon is the debuting read-a-thon hosted by Tessa and Max from Crazy for YA. Starting today, June 21st till June 27th, it's not too late so sign up now. Here's the intro post so check that out too for more instructions and info regarding Twitter chats and challenges.

I love participating in the different events in the Book Blogging Community, most especially read-a-thons as it makes me accountable, so I really push myself to achieve my goals. I also prefer events that are interactive, so with Twitter chats, challenges etc as it really makes the event so much more fun. I also enjoy meeting so many new fantastic bloggers, and finding other books to add to my ever-growing TBR pile. I'll be updating this page with my daily updates rather than doing a daily post.

Book List

(linked to Goodreads)

Goals

  • Read at least 100 pages/day
  • Participate in TWO of the Daily Challenges
  • Cheerleader Duties for at least 20 participants (Visit + Comment + Tweet + Encourage)
  • Accomplish ONE of the "Achievements"

Wrap-Up Commentary

100 pages/day

I know I didn't read 100 pages daily, but since I only read for 5 days, and my total was 500+ I technically did achieve that goal although I went with the total average.

TWO Daily Challenges

This goal I really did well at as I participated in all but one challenge, I didn't really get the poem one for Day 2. I've put the answers in red.

Cheerleader Duties

I commented on as many but I don't know if there were 20 participants but I did comment on quite a few posts.

The only thing that I didn't do well at is the actual READING LOL!!!

Sunday June 21st Introduction

Getting To Know You

What is your favorite thing about reading?

Being taken into another world and someone else's life...escaping! It's like going on holidays.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

Being able to communicate with other people that value bookish things as much as I do.

What is your favorite thing about summer?

Weather and summer reminds me of vacations and the beach.

If you could take a summer vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Bora Bora

What is your favorite book of the year so far?

Coke or Pepsi?
OMG I've got a bad addiction to Coke (Coca Cola that is, thank you very much)

Fantasy or Sci-Fi?

Enjoy both but if I had to choose one; Fantasy.

Hardcovers or Paperbacks?

Oooh this is hard as they both have their pros & cons and they both have a place in my library, but I think for the purpose of this question I'll have to go with Paperbacks as it's more convenient and practical and you'll always get to see the beautiful covers which doesn't happen with Hardcovers for me as I normally take the dust jacket off when reading, not to mention the latter is extremely heavy when your traveling.

Chocolate or Vanilla?

Chocolate

What is your favorite TV show at the moment?

Pretty Little Liars

Two Truths & A Lie

  1. I've got 4 Dogs
  2. I've got a 3 month old daughter I've got a 3 month old SON called Riley.
  3. I've lived in 3 countries in my lifetime
Which do you think is a lie? Please leave the # in the comments section below, and tell me why you think it's the lie over the others. Please also leave your link for your #CFSReadathon post.

Tuesday June 23rd Letter to Character

Since I've got a Confessions Series by Louise Rozett feature happening on my blog, I think I'd like to write a letter for one of the characters from The Confessions Series. Please check out the Feature if you haven't read the series as yet, so you'll understand my letter a little bit more, and also if you like what you read on the feature posts which includes reviews and Character Interviews.

There are also two fantastic giveaways, one hosted by moi, book 1 in the series and the other is a chance to win book 3, the latter is hosted by YA Bound Blog Tours.

    Dear Rose:

I know the feeling of anger and grief is not one to go away so soon, but as you've seen in the past, doing something out of anger alone doesn't work too well. I know this is a bit cliche but I promise you that time will heal all wounds.

This letter isn't to lecture you, but to simply tell you how proud I am of not just Rose 2.0 but Rose 1.0 as well. I am so proud of how you've turned yourself from the victim, to the survivor. I'm proud of the way you've become a more beautiful, confident and strong person and despite all that you've been through these last few years, you ARE a survivor and I'd like to tell you this so you don't forget, because I personally don't think you really "get it" at times, how well you are doing considering the circumstances.

I want you to know, to keep your chin up and continue to do all the things that you have planned to do for your future. Stay strong, and know that despite what you feel at times, anger is not the answer. You have worked through your problems in a way that not even many adults can do. Your doing great and I want you to continue to live your dreams, that's how your Dad would have wanted you to live it, to the fullest. He gave his life to be able to give you and Peter the best chances in life, so live that life in his honour.

    From your friend unknown,
    Angelica

    Wednesday June 24th Twitter Summary

The Confessions Series by Louise Rozett
and very . It's a series about  in its  form, the good AND the bad and how people deal with it.

    Thursday June 25th Guess Who

The characters I'm naming belong to one of these books, so each book has a character described. Hope this makes it slightly easier to guess. Tell me which characters you think these are!

    1. I have a "disease" and need to see a counsellor. I've got a brother that is "addicted" to video games and I have a crush on one of my brother's friends. Audrey from "Finding Audrey" by Sophie Kinsella

    2. I created a website called "The Shark List", it's a fashionista website where I take pics of all the wonderful fashionable people in my high school. My best friend's name is Rose, my ex's name is Matt. Tracy from "No More Confessions" by Louise Rozette

    3. I used to be Dauntless, but changed to Abnegation. Natalie Wright Prior (Tris' Mother) from "Divergent" by Veronica Roth

    Friday June 26th Recommended Reads

To continue with my theme of the week which is the Confession Series by Louise Rozett, I will recommend books that you'd most likely be interested in and enjoy if you enjoyed The Confessions Series. Goodreads was a tremendous help for this challenge.

Saturday June 27th Guess the Last Line

These last lines are only from books mentioned or pictured on this #CFSReadathon Challenge and Update posts.

    1. Some people have to wait their whole lives for great love. Some people find it when they're too young to know what to do with it. No More Confessions by Louise Rozett

    2. He bends down and kisses me on the forehead. "I love you, Ruth."
"I love you, too. I'm so sorry I never said it before." Ruthless by Carolyn Lee Adams

    3. For now, these steps are enough. These first few precious steps into darkness. Into the unknown.
Into freedom. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

    COYER

COYER (Clean Out Your Ebook Reader) is a twice per annum event hosted by Fantasy Is More Fun, Because Reading and Books, Movies, Reviews Oh My!. It's a season-worth of fun stuff such as Scavenger Hunts, Readathons and Twitter chats. Click on the link #COYER or the banner above for all the official stuff like the rules, giveaways and schedule.

I will be updating this post as the event goes along, but for now...

    My Goals

    • Participate in the Scavenger Hunt and knock out at least 10 categories
    • Participate in 2 Read-a-thons
    • Read 20 books average of 2 per week
    • Be supportive - 20 blogs/comment/tweet per week
    • Participate in one Twitter Chat
    • Participate in one of the Social Media Fun per week
The first Read-a-thon for COYER is the "Red, White or Blue" to commemorate the 4th of July Independence Day for the United States. So pick books that have Red, White OR Blue in the cover and a short review to enter in the Rafflecopter giveaway. For all the official stuff including rules and how to get bonus round points click here or the event button above.
COYER has started a few weeks ago and I haven't been participating as much as I had hoped, I had entered a few of the social media fun but I haven't been as supportive, I've achieved my reading of 2 books per week, but I haven't cross-listed it off my COYER list, so I don't know how many points I've gained as yet.

I've been very busy, since COYER began I've had a funeral, two birthdays and one week of school holidays, but I should be getting a bit more time now, so I will endeavour to change my lack of participation, starting with this Read-a-thon!

    Netgalley Knockout (July 1 - Sept 30)

Coming into this event a bit late, I just recently found it so...

Since I'm participating in the 2013 Netgalley Reading Challenge hosted by Red House Books this would be a terrific opportunity to knockout my Netgalley list so I can start requesting for more. I've been holding back with the whole requesting until I can get my Netgalley requested list back on track.

My Goal - Read 5 For Review Ebooks

Here's the official stuff taken from The Netgalley Knockout host, The Goldilox and the Three Weres:-

    • Netgalley Knockout will run from July 1 - September 30
    • You are not limited to ebooks from Netgalley! You can include any ebook you have received for review from Netgalley, Edelweiss, or from a publisher or author directly. It just must be an ebook and it must be a review book.
    • You can only count books that you read from July 1 to September 30. Nothing read before the challenge starts or after it ends will count toward the challenge!
    • You do not have to only include books released during the months July, August, or September - but you can include these, of course! Any electronic review book counts, whether it has already been released or is still yet to be released!
    • Again, even if the book has already been released, if you're reading a review ebook copy of it then it counts toward the challenge!
    • And if you find this post after July 1st - no worries! You can join the challenge through the linky all the way up to September 1st if you'd like!***
    • There will be a giveaway for any blogs who link up their wrap up post at the end of the challenge in September! Every blog on that linky will be entered and one winner will be randomly chosen to receive an ebook of their choice under $15.00 from the ebook seller of their choice!

    Challenge Schedule

    Monday

    1. Which book you are most excited to read in the coming year? It can be already released or coming soon.

There are literally hundreds of books I want to read both released and soon to be released. However, for the purpose of this challenge I'm going to list sequels to series I've started because I'm just dying to read the next book in the following series:-
    1. Cold Spell (Fairytale Retellings #4) by Jackson Pearce
    2. Rise of the Arcane Fire (The Secret Order #2) by Kristin Bailey
    3. Taste of Darkness (Healer #3) by Maria V Snyder
    4. Born of Deception (Born of Illusion #2) by Teri Brown
    5. Once We Were (Hybrid Chronicles #2) by Kat Zhang

    2. Which book would you re-read if you had the time and weren't so busy reading ALL of the other good thing?

Definitely favourite series', all of the following I've got in box sets, so it's definitely ones that I plan to re-read:-

    1. Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling
    2. Lord of the Rings series by Tolkien
    3. Anne of Green Gables series by LM Montgomery.

    3. If you could meet any fictional character who would it be and why?

It'd be a toss up between Evie from Paranormalcy by Kiersten White or Katarina Bishop from Heist Society by Ally Carter. I just feel like if I met either of these characters we'd hit it off and fast become BFF's. They are sarcastic, funny and kick-ass.

I participated in this challenge, my comment can be found here, username: Nikkilodean19

    Tuesday

You're in a bookstore and you've just purchased 5 books you've been dying to read, when the apocalypse hits. (Zombie, Demons, Vampires, Dean Winchester vs. Sam Winchester (yes, I'm watching Supernatural reruns) I don't care what apocalypse). You've got one chance at survival, what 2 books do you take and what 3 other items do you take?

I wasn't going to answer this in a practical way but I just realised it was actually noted that it's a survival thing so I've changed my answers accordingly. My answers would have been very different if I didn't have to be practical about the whole survival thing LOL

    Books

Encyclopedia - So I can find EVERYTHING from which plants are edible, how to do certain things etc. which can be very useful when your in the wild with not many resources.

Bible - I chose the Bible because it's a book that can be read from cover to cover several times over and over and you won't get bored from it.

    Other Items

3G iPad with Charger - A multi-purpose item. I can use it to communicate with people, essentially use it as a phone via apps, I can load all my ebooks on it and read from it, I can use the internet and Google things I need to know, use it as a journal to journal the events that are taking place, can be used as a camera, voice recorder, torch etc.

Weapon - A weapon of some sort to help protect myself and family and also for hunting purposes. I'm tossing up between a gun and a swiss-army knife, the latter seems more useful for the basic necessities as well like opening canned foods, first aid things etc. you can't exactly shoot a can when you want to eat the contents, but I think for the purpose of protection and hunting maybe something like a rifle would be better. After all you need something to shoot all those zombies that get in the way.

Special Camping All-in-one backpack - The ones with the included sleeping bag, the water bottle and other camping necessities all built into the backpack.

    Wednesday

    Rainy Day Ramblings

I participated in this Puzzle Challenge and entered the answers on the Rafflecopter form.

    Dizneeee's World of Books

Note of warning: I struggle with choosing "favourites" so I'm going to choose the first "favourites" that pop into my mind.

    Favourite Genre: Young Adult Dystopia
Favourite Book from YA Dystopia: Uglies Series by Scott Westerfeld
Favourite Character from YA Dystopia: Tris from Divergent

    Goals

I just finished participating in the Summer Lovin Read-a-thon and did terribly in the reading department...I know, that kind of defeats the purpose of a read-a-thon. The last week I've been suffering a terrible flu so I was in a bit of a reading slump and was jumping from book to book as nothing was holding my interest or attention. So since I'm now in recovery mode and I'm not working for 2 of the 3 days of this Read-a-thon I'm hoping to redeem myself.

    • Participate in at least 3 challenges
    • Finish at least 2 books I'm currently reading

Summer Lovin Read-a-thon Wrap Up Post

Welcome to final day of the Summer Lovin Read-a-thon! The 24 hour marathon has just ended and I was thrilled to be one of the winners on the trivia quizzes.

    Day 6 & 7 Update

Books Read: Ink by Amanda Sun (33 pages) and Speak Easy (41 pages) by Melanie Harlow
    Pages Read: 74
    Total Books Finished: None
    Total Pages Read: 368

Challenge: Summer Fling hosted by Read, Sleep, Repeat and Book Cover Guess hosted by Effortlessly Reading

    Participation Post topics schedule

You are graduating today–list your accomplishments big and small for the week. Hop around and congratulate all of your friends on their accomplishments.

I have to admit I did terribly in the reading department in this Read-a-thon LOL which kinda defeats the purpose of a read-a-thon, I did however have so much fun with all the amazing participation posts and generally socialising and interacting with other participants and the hosts.

The following are the links to my daily Participation posts, Challenges and Updates.

    Day 1

Here were my goals, originally posted with my book list here

Read at least 3 books OR 50 pages daily
Do at least 4 participation post
Participate in at least 3 challenges
    Black out the Bingo!
Visit and comment on as many blogs as I can

I didn't complete 3 books, I did however, reach my daily quota of 50 pages/daily. I had a hard week when it came to reading, I'm very sick with the flu, working 9am-9pm for 3-4 days of this week and was on a bad reading slump. For those that have checked my daily updates, you'll see that I was chopping and changing from book to book like they were going out of fashion, nothing was holding my interest this week.

On a good note I participated in ALL the Participation posts, completed 5 challenges and did very well in the visiting and commenting on participants blogs. I was also very lucky to have won two giveaways, one from the Twitter trivia, an ebook from the choices listed and a the How my summer went up in flames by Jennifer S Doktorski prize pack from Love, Life, Read's Author Feature. I can't wait to receive it as I've had it in my wishlist for a few weeks now.

So...overall despite not having finished one book in this read-a-thon thus far I still had an amazing time and I can't help but feel that this read-a-thon was still a success for me as I met lots of awesome bloggers and also had a lot of fun which is the main goal. I also didn't do too badly in my goals and had I just gotten through two books I would have definitely blacked out my Bingo card.

    Participation Post topics schedule

It’s good to be Bad….boys that is!! Tell us which bad boys make your heart go pitter patter in all the wrong right ways!

I'm not a huge fan of "bad boys" anymore as I've had enough dealings with those to last me a lifetime in real life...so I had trouble trying to figure this one out, but I thought I was on a roll with the Participation posts so...

I took these casts from other blogs/websites, but they are sourced, only because I'm terrible at picturing characters let alone looking for an actor/model that looks similar to how I picture them.

The first person I thought of when I read this Participation topic was Damon Salvatore, this is the only time I've loved the bad boy over the good boy, not so much from when I was reading the book but when I was watching the show.

The pic of Yuu Tomohiro is taken from Book Passion for Life, however, she had him down for Akiva from Daughter of Smoke & Bone but this is how I picture Tomohiro from Ink.
