Stacking The Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews. It's main purpose is to showcase the books you've obtained (borrowed, won/gifted, given for review or purchased) for the week gone by. To participate, link to your own STS post here

Apologies for my lack of participation in Stacking The Shelves. I'm really slack with taking photos because as you can see, I don't take very good ones LOL so I tend to forget to take the pics and before you know it, it's already Saturday so I procrastinate and tell myself I'll do it next week and that just happens week after week. I'm trying to be more pro-active and schedule my posts at least a week in advance, so hopefully my Stacking The Shelves post will be more frequent and on time.

First up...giveaways!

Chyna from Lite-rate-ture attended Tahereh Mafi's signing at National Book Store in my home country of Philippines. My fellow Filo (Filipina) book blogger has kindly hosted a giveaway in honour of the event giving away a SIGNED copy of Unravel Me and a Shatter Me Cotton On top. Here's the link to the giveaway.

Won the book of my choice from The Book Depository to the value of $15 from Fiction Fare's Blogoversary, they had so many amazing giveaways to commemorate their blog's birthday and I was lucky to have won this one :) Jaime was kind enough to let me order Impostor by Susanne Winnacker.

I also purchased Born Wicked as Jessica Spotswood was doing a signing I unfortunately couldn't attend so I purchased a copy to be signed and personalised by Jessica, the staff at Hooray 4 Books were kind enough to also give me some Born Wicked swag (only the bookmark is included in the pic below, but there were stickers...all signed!) AND a FREE ARC copy of Star Cursed!!! I got this a few months back but I was slack with the taking photos so it's only being added to my STS now.

Any new additions to your library?
Comment below and I'll be sure to visit you right back.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Blog Tour ~ Solstice by PJ Hoover {Character Spotlight + Giveaways}

Welcome to my Team Dystopia stop for

 Solstice by PJ Hoover Tour

hosted by Mod Podge Blog Tours

CHARACTER SPOLIGHT: CHLOE

Hi! P. J. Hoover here, author of the upcoming dystopian/mythology YA novel, Solstice (Tor Teen, June 18, 2013), and today is a Character Spotlight from Solstice! Character spotlights are divided into two groups: Team Myth and Team Dystopia. Up today is Chloe from Team Dystopia!

Character ~ Chloe
Team ~ Dystopia

Three Things About Chloe:

1) Piper’s best friend So we already met our main character, Piper. And seriously, every girl needs a best friend. Chloe is the best kind. She’s positive an upbeat and always encourages Piper to stretch her wings.

2) Always wears a bandana Why? Because it looks awesome on her. At least that’s what she told Piper when they met back at the beginning of freshman year. And because accessorizing is super important and should be carefully thought out, Chloe’s bandanas match her outfits every day.

3) Falls in love every week Chloe’s a teenager. What can she say? And there are so many cute guys out there in the world. Chloe figures she does not want to waste away her youth on one guy. Especially if she doesn’t know how much of a future she might have. I adored writing Chloe. I love her free spirit and the way she encourages Piper to break out of her shell. Thank you for reading, and I hope you’re enjoying the blog tour!

About the Author

PJ Hoover

P. J. Hoover first fell in love with Greek mythology in sixth grade thanks to the book Mythology by Edith Hamilton. Her first novel for teens, Solstice (Tor Teen, June 18, 2013), takes place in a global warming future and explores the parallel world of mythology beside our own. Her middle grade novel, Tut (Tor Children's, 2014), tells the story of a young immortal King Tut, who's been stuck in middle school for over 3,000 years and must defeat an ancient enemy with the help of a dorky kid from school, a mysterious Egyptian princess, and a one-eyed cat. Release Day ~ Haven by Laury Falter

Haven

by Laury Falter

Series: The Apocalypse Chronicles
Release Date: June 22, 2013
Genre: YA Paranormal Romance

Synopsis

Haven, the first book in the Apocalypse Chronicles...

On an ordinary day in early September, Kennedy Shaw leaves for school unaware that within a few minutes the world she knows will be gone - succumbed to an outbreak of epidemic proportions. After finding a safe haven inside the security of her enclosed high school, she learns that four others have survived, one being a bold, mysterious transfer student from Texas whose unruffled demeanor harbors more than a cool interest in her. As they struggle to survive the dead fighting their way inside, will Kennedy discover there is more to life than survival? And will she and the others find a way to live in this terrifying new world?

Excerpt

"You do amazing things to me, Kennedy, things I didn't think were possible."

I began to smile, too, as he went on, telling me thoughts that had been carefully preserved secrets until now.

"Life was meaningless until I saw you lying on that tombstone. It was just a hazy blur of responsibilities and empty, trivial ambitions. But then you were there, curled up, with your face, your beautiful face," he said touching me there, "turned at the sky. And even though death surrounded us, I started to feel alive, for the first time…since I can remember."

I held back a gasp as he said this to me. Because, ironically, he'd just described the same experience I'd gone through when he'd come into my life.

"You stirred something in me that I didn't know was there. And I didn't give it due credit at the time, thinking that it would go away or I'd wake up one day and feel the same as I had before you. But it didn't go away. It got stronger."
