Book-Specific Charities

I am BACK! Apologies to all my readers I've just had a very difficult last 2 years but it just felt like it got even more difficult the last few months but alas I think I'm starting to get over it. I'm over the whole reading slump too, it seems when you go through some type of depression you even stop doing what you love the most, in my case...reading! I didn't stop completely but I certainly didn't devour books like I normally do.
Anyhow, to much happier news! Christmas is fast approaching and during Christmas I love co-ordinating doing something for those less fortunate than myself. The last few years I've donated to the RSPCA, you can check out your local shelter's wishlists here, and to the Operation Christmas Child which is sponsored by Samaritan's Purse.
This year I'm doing something different...I don't know why I didn't think of it before!!! This year I'm going to donate either books or money to go towards books; charities that donate books to children in need to encourage reading. Here are some of the charities that I've found that does this:-
Worldreader - Million Books Movement
All your donations go towards Kindles and ebooks that goes to children in Africa that may not have been able to enjoy reading otherwise. So far they have provided 200,000 ebooks to children in Africa, help the movement make their target of 1 million.
Australian Learning & Numeracy Foundation (ALNF) - Wall of Hands
Helps close the gap between the Indigenious children of Australia with literacy and numeracy. Donation goes towards further learning programs for Indigenious children. Reading and writing is a basic right yet only one in five children are able to read in the minimal level. Help ALNF bring education to Indigenious children and most especially bring the gift of reading to these children. Be one of the hands or start your own wall of hands and get sponsors!
ALNF & Officeworks - Share a book
Australians can donate new and pre-loved childrens books at any local Officeworks. These books are then given to Indigenious children in rural Australia to encourage the learning of reading.
We Give Books - for every childrens book that you read online from their site they provide a charity with a hard copy of a book. They also provide books to less fortunate schools and neighborhoods so that children from these neighborhoods in the United States do not miss out on reading.
Please check the charities websites and read up on other things you maybe able to do to further help these book-specific charities that are spreading the gift of reading to children all over the world.
SPREAD THE CHEER OF CHRISTMAS AND THE LOVE OF READING!!!
