About The Book
Power of Five
by Alex Lidell
Series: Power of Five #1
Publication Date: May 4, 2018
Publisher: Danger Bearing Press
Formats: Paperback & eBook
Pages: 312
Four elite fae warriors. One mortal female. A magical bond they can’t allow—or resist.
Orphaned and sold to a harsh master, Lera’s life is about mucking stalls, avoiding her master’s advances, and steering clear of the mystical forest separating the mortal and fae worlds. Only fools venture into the immortal realms, and only dark rumors come out... Until four powerful fae warriors appear at Lera’s barn.
River, Coal, Tye, and Shade have waited a decade for their new fifth to be chosen, the wounds from their quint brother’s loss still raw. But the magic has played a cruel trick, bonding the four immortal warriors to... a female. A mortal female.
Distractingly beautiful and dangerously frail, Lera can only be one thing—a mistake. Yet as the males bring Lera back to the fae lands to sever the bond, they discover that she holds more power over their souls than is safe for anyone... especially for Lera herself.
Power of Five is a full-length reverse-harem fantasy novel.
Power of Five is my first foray into a reverse harem book, truth be told, I did not even know what RM was before I read this book, but I'm not going to lie...I liked it.
In Power of Five, my main enjoyment was on the well written characters. Alex really was distinctive with each of the male faes, they all had their own personalities and characters, and I was not at all confused who was who. I really enjoyed that they were all so very different from each other. This made the choice of choosing one a real problem...not that Lera wanted to, but you know, in my imagining, if she had to choose one she probably couldn't, as she loved them all. Even her relationship with each one was different. Although if I had to choose I'd definitely go with River.
There was a bit of insta-lust, which I do not normally like, but it worked well for this book. I didn't cringe at that instant-love/lust aspect...which I normally do.
Lera was a nice genuine character who didn't pretend to be someone she's not; she isn't physically strong but she is very mentally able...I mean who gets told she's the 5th in an ancient fae quint and not even faint?
The world itself seemed very interesting, but I did wish we got more information about it. I feel that the YA fantasy part of this book was just second to the romance. However, it's only the first book in the series, and there was a hint towards the end of more "world" to come.
Power of Five was a well-paced YA RM Fantasy Romance, the latter taking main focus. Amazing characters, who were all strong and likeable. World building has solid foundation, and I believe we will get more from the sequel. I can't wait to read the sequel to see what happens, and more so, does she choose ONE fae?
