Ember Brycin has been called them all. She’s always known she’s different. No one has ever called her normal, even under the best circumstances. Bizarre and inexplicable things continually happen to her, and having two different colored eyes, strange hair, and an unusual tattoo only contributes to the gossip about her.
When the latest school explosion lands her in a facility for trouble teens, she meets Eli Dragen, who’s hot as hell and darkly mysterious. Their connection is full of passion, danger, and secrets. Secrets that will not only change her life, but what and who she is—leading her down a path she never imagined possible.
Between Light and Dark, Ember finds a world where truth and knowledge are power and no one can be trusted. But her survival depends on finding out the truth about herself. In her pursuit, she is forced between love and destiny and good and evil, even when the differences between them aren’t always clear. At worst, she will incite a war that could destroy both worlds. At best, she will not only lose her heart but her life and everyone she loves. Once the truth is out, however, there will be no going back. And she’ll definitely wish she could.
Paperback Princess Review
Darkness of Light by Stacey Marie Brown is unlike many books I've read, the plot was interesting but certainly not original, however, the relationship between the characters and the sarcastic and humorous dialogue between the characters is what truly keeps the Readers glued to it's pages. It's a well-written, page-turner and a fantastic debut novel and I'm looking forward to reading the consecutive books in this series.
Ember is our protagonist, she's strong-willed, loving, kind and a beautiful person. Despite being the heroine she still had insecurities, she questioned her sanity at times (along with the rest of the world) and she was conflicted when making some decisions through the book. I enjoy characters like these because the story is more believable. I thoroughly enjoyed Ember's character, the relationship and interaction she had with the other characters. However, my favourite in Ember's quality was her dry humour and sarcastic dialogue.
Here I was, however, letting the "poster boy of the unstable" into my life.
You know the moment right as you wake up, before reality hits, and everything is perfect? Yeah, well, I didn't have that.
The secondary characters were just amazing. Ember was surrounded with beautiful people in her life. She had Mark, her Step-Father, who treated her like his own. He was a standing rock in her life when they both lost Ember's Mother. He was kind and understanding. I also enjoyed Ember's two best friends, Ryan and Kennedy, they were the perfect trio. They were all outcasts in their school, but yet they all had their own individual personalities. Ryan was extremely funny and sarcastic, whilst Kennedy was the soft spoken and sweet character in their little group. They had a bond that was just amazing and I found myself wishing I was part of their little group.
Darkness of Light's plot revolved around Ember's journey to unfolding the secrets that lied within herself. From the time she was a child she had been sent to Psychiatrists as those around her questioned her sanity. As she got older she started manifesting strange powers when she got angered and that's when Eli walks into her life. Eli is Ember's love interest, but I'm yet to make a decision on whether I actually like him or not. His your typical bad boy, but in this case he wants to kill Ember! However, as time grew and he spent more time with her, his views started to change as he starts falling in love with Ember.
Darkness of Light is a fantastic and gripping YA paranormal read that had amazing characters and dialogue that kept you turning it's pages. The relationships between the characters and the characters themselves, along with the slow unfolding of the mystery will keep you glued to it's pages.
