Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke & The Bookish
Hi Everyone! I've been really slack with my Top Ten Tuesday post as of late, I would read the topic for the week and struggle to come up with ten so I just wouldn't do the post. This week though, Jen from The Broke & The Bookish only did seven, so I decided that it's ok to not have ten from now on. It's better to participate and come up with less than ten than not participate at all.
I thought that this topic would be slightly difficult because I don't know if anyone else has noticed but most books nowadays are series! There aren't many standalone books anymore, does anyone else agree with me?
Lastly, are there anyone that are clever with the whole HTML coding? I'd like to use threaded comments for my comments, but I'm unable to do so using the Blogger instructions, apparently because of my design, so if someone knows how to to incorporate the threaded comment in my HTML coding I'd love your help!

ReplyDeleteI've still not read Jellicoe Road. I should - I adore Melina Marchetta. But I'm scared. Iv'e heard so many great things. Like... AMAZING things. So I don't want to be disappointed.
Great list! I've loved so many of these books - Like between the lines, the heiresses and Eleanor and PArk. They definitely deserve another book to continue the story!
It would be wonderful if Rebecca had a sequel!

Great List!! I loved The Night Circus and Rebecca is one of my all time favorites. There is a sequel of sorts for Rebecca titled Mrs. de Winter, but it was written by another author...Susan Hill. I haven't read it, but I have had a copy on my bookshelf for YEARS.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these, but I did get halfway through The Book Thief lol. I agree it's hard to come up with 10 sometimes (especially topics like these). But sometimes I just do 5 and that's ok. It's just the participation that counts.

Ow we share some books on today's list. Not sure if I'd like sequels though for books like The Book Thief, for me the story was pretty much finished. I do wish I could re-experience it again and again for the first time though.

I am sadly in the minority that did not like Eleanor & Park, but I do agree with you on The Book Thief! And I can't wait to read On The Jelicoe Road. I love Melina Marchetta's work!

ReplyDeleteI agree about Eleanor and Park. I didn't add it to my list because I wasn't sure I loved the Eleanor. I think had we been able to see her more in a safer environment I would have liked her better. And what the heck happens between her and Park? Like really!

Eleanor & Park is the only one on your list that I've read and I totally agree it needs a sequel. I loved the ending... but I'd still love to read more about them. Maybe set 10 years down the road or something. :)

ReplyDeleteI don't know about threaded comments, but I do highly recommend Disqus as a commenting system that you can install on your blog. I like it because it emails me when I have a comment, it emails the person who commented when I reply, and for me that allows me to have a better "conversation" with my commenters, which is what I love.

ReplyDeleteCan you believe I haven't read a Rainbow Rowell book yet?? Even after everyone goes on and on about her books, I still haven't gotten around to it! Ooh and The Night Circus... I've wanted to read that for a long time-- I've heard it's awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, there are SO many series!! Sometimes I really wish for a standalone story. It's impossible to keep up with everything, and discouraging to discover a series that sounds great but has already like 5 thick books out.

ReplyDeleteI actually don't mind it so much when I find a series that I like that's already complete, that way I can read it one after another without a break, especially an annoying break where we wait for the last book in the series! That's very frustrating LOL
With The Night Circus, like you said I'd like to revisit that world, the Night Circus' story itself was rounded off nicely so maybe a companion novel more so than a sequel.
I'm envious that your reading The Book Thief, I wish I could re-experience reading it for the first time again, savour it!
How special is that copy of Rebecca! From your Grandmother! Do you know how to read German? No matter what you decide, whether you read Rebecca in English or German, definitely keep that copy, that's like a family heirloom…pass it down generations and hope that you have plenty more generations of readers in your family :D
Don't worry Betty, Eleanor & Park was my first Rainbow Rowell book, and can you believe I didn't even read the synopsis. It was a Read-along book and I just jumped straight into it not even knowing what it was about LOL and I'm so glad I did. I can't wait to read Fangirl :D

Michael I didn't think that I'd really enjoy Rebecca but I did, it's definitely a classic :D Is there a companion novel to Rebecca? I thought that there was another book to Rebecca but I wasn't sure.

ReplyDeleteAlise that's what I wrote above, maybe a companion novel is better than a sequel as the story was concluded quite nicely, or maybe on other characters. I've been eagerly awaiting another book from Morgenstern, can't wait till she writes a new novel!

ReplyDeleteSara The Secret Lives of Dresses is about a girl that inherits these vintage dresses from her Grandmother, along with said dresses were manuscripts detailing each of the dresses lives. It's a fantastic novel and it maybe because I love dresses too but I found the whole vintage clothes, with each dress having a life of their own really fun to read about :D

ReplyDeleteSuzanne when reading Between The Lives book description it doesn't sound like much but Shirvington's writing really delves deep emotionally so have your tissues ready especially at the end ;)

ReplyDeleteLisa, don't worry just slowly and surely pull through your TBR pile :D You'll get there ;) Try even reading several books at the same time, that way you won't get bored with just reading one novel, I seem to get through so many more books when I'm reading a few at a time. I normally do this when I'm participating in Read-alongs.
ReplyDeleteSara LOL your right about Eleanor, to be honest I think that I love the story and the humour amongst the characters more so than the characters themselves. I do like Eleanor's sarcasm and her dialogue, oh my her dialogue was just hilarious!

Jacque I mentioned that above to Michael, I thought there was a sequel to Rebecca, I'd be scared to read it too in case it doesn't compare to Daphne's writing, I'd hate to wreck the story. What have you heard about Mrs de Winter? Good or bad things?

ReplyDeleteSofia yes E&P is a fantastic read, and I probably wouldn't put huge emphasis on the synopsis because to be honest it doesn't really do the book much justice :(
ReplyDeleteDaisy it seems (if you read on the comments above) that there is a sequel to Rebecca but it isn't written by Daphne du Maurier so I don't know how great it'll be, but I'll be checking it out, it's called Mrs de Winter.
